Synopsis: When Cheryl is asked to take over the unpaid, anonymous position of advice columnist under the moniker “Sugar,” the struggling writer uses empathy and her personal experiences to help those seeking guidance for obstacles both large and small. Tiny Beautiful Things is a play about reaching when you’re stuck, healing when you’re broken, and finding the courage to take on the questions that have no answers. Inspired by real questions and answers that "Sugar" published online from 2010 to 2012. Based on the bestselling book by Cheryl Strayed, and adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos

The Year of Extraordinary Travel

This April, Onward Theatre will host the Atlanta premiere of a solo show with companion gallery exhibit by award-winning actor / photographer Becca McCoy. The Year of Extraordinary Travel will have a limited engagement two-performance run at the Adair Park performance space on April 12-13, 2024.  

This multi-disciplinary theatrical event is based on Becca McCoy’s real-life experience of traveling somewhere every month for a year.  The play explores relationships, memory, and how we fill the spaces between the “no longer” and the “not yet.”  The show world-premiered at Studio Grand Central in Florida, winning a Critics’ Choice Best of the Bay Award from Creative Loafing Tampa and netting Becca a Theatre Tampa Bay Award nomination.  David Warner of The Gabber Newspaper said: “Becca McCoy has created an enthralling, suspenseful, often hilarious, and ultimately profound piece of theatre.  An extraordinary work of art.”

One Night at a Time by Stand-Up 4 Recovery

‘One Night at a Time’ is a monthly award-winning comedy show by Stand-Up 4 Recovery which was recently featured on WABE. Comedians in recovery from addiction and mental health challenges share their experience, strength, and jokes.

This show saves lives. At every show, the host Richie Satori works in a 2 minute bit where the audience actually learns how to reverse an overdose. Free ‘Narcan’ is provided by Georgia Overdose Prevention who have helped save 10,000 lives in Georgia over the past 10 years.

This month’s show is a spotlight on all the amazing local talent SU4R has to offer including 15 comics in recovery from alcohol/drugs and other mental health challenges plus one comic who’s an adult child of addicts in recovery. Celebrity guests have been known to pop up from time to time to perform or just support.
